Which filters do I need, and how many?

The P5-48XT includes a pre-filter and requires up to 4 main filters, which are sold separately. The Air Science ASTS-030 HEPA filter is the powder/particulate option for this unit; confirm the right media for your chemicals before ordering, and Delmen can advise.

Is the P5-48XT just a wider version of the P5-36XT?

The P5-48XT includes a pre-filter and requires up to 4 main filters, which are sold separately. The filter type depends on your application — HEPA for powders and particulates, or a chemical/solvent-rated media for vapors. Is this hood ductless — do we need to vent it externally?

It is ductless. Air is drawn through the filters and recirculated, so there is no external ducting to install — the hood sits on the bench and plugs into a standard outlet. This makes it suitable for rooms where running ductwork to the outside is impractical. The trade-off is that filtration must match your chemicals, since contaminants are captured in the filters rather than exhausted outside.

How do I know which filter type matches the chemicals we handle?

Filter media is application-specific: HEPA captures powders and particulates, while chemical and solvent vapors require a carbon-based or chemically-rated media. The correct choice depends on the specific substances and concentrations in your workflow. Send Delmen your chemical list and we can help match the filter type — don't assume HEPA covers solvent vapors, because it doesn't.

Does this satisfy OSHA requirements for our compounding area?

This hood may assist with compliance under OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.1450 (occupational exposure to hazardous chemicals in laboratories, Part B — laboratory-type hood) as part of your chemical hygiene plan.
